Raffles Jakarta and Singapore International School (SIS) collaborated for an environment awareness event based on the 1939 classic movie “The Wizard of Oz” which became “The Wizard of Dunia” (Wizard of the World). Raffles Jakarta students designed 5 main costumes, the Wizard Of Dunia, the Javanese Scarecrow, the Sumatran Cowardly Tiger, the Styro Man, and the Head Winkie Soldier made entirely from recycled materials.  Raffles Jakarta students had the opportunity to work with unconventional materials which will surely bring them a lot of knowledge in their creative journey at Raffles and first-hand experience of creating sustainable design. This experience also helped them to comprehend some important issues related to Sustainable Design.

The art performance took place on Monday (25th November, 2013) in the Sasono Langen Budoyo Theatre which is located in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, a culture-based recreational area located in East Jakarta, Indonesia.  The nearly three hour show gave to the assembly of proud parents, fellow pupils and guests, a chance to sample some of the work undertaken over the past months by the students and teachers which shows the concerns of the younger generation about the environment, materialism and the exploitation of endangered animals. Raffles Jakarta is proud to be one of the main sponsors in this magnificent performance given by the younger generation sharing Raffles spirit: to inspire and empower each other to excel.
